A Brazilian decaf with a chocolate-and-caramel direction. For an evening cup or an everyday decaf, this selection puts the coffee’s flavour at the centre of the experience.

Origin & identity

Our purchase is identified as Brazil Carbonic Natural Decaf. The specific Brazilian growing region, farm, varieties and altitude have not yet been supplied for this lot, so we are keeping its origin description at country level.

Understanding Carbonic Natural

CR3’s analysis certificate confirms that our lot was decaffeinated using CO₂.

Carbonic Natural is CR3’s name for a liquid-carbon-dioxide decaffeination process developed in Bremen. Green coffee is first moistened with water and steam. Liquid CO₂ then circulates through the beans to extract caffeine; the caffeine is separated and the CO₂ recirculated.

The name refers to decaffeination. It does not mean carbonic-maceration fermentation, and it does not by itself tell us whether the original cherries were washed or naturally dried. Decaffeinated coffee can still contain small traces of caffeine.

Supplier range profile: chocolate and caramel, with a rounded texture.

Brewing suggestions

Try espresso, moka pot or filter. For filter, begin with 15g coffee to 250g water; for espresso, start around a 1:2 coffee-to-beverage ratio. Adjust the grind for this decaf rather than assuming your usual coffee setting will suit it.
