SL28 grown in Costa Rica, with red honey processing and a supplier profile of milk chocolate, lemon zest and florals. Vista Paraíso is the discovery coffee in our single-origin selection: a named farm, a distinctive variety and a process worth exploring slowly.

Farm & origin story

Our lot is identified as Vista Paraíso, Corazón de Jesús, SL28, red honey, SHB EP. Published farm background connects Vista Paraíso and the Corazón de Jesús micromill with the Alvarado family in the Chirripó area of Pérez Zeledón. This is farm context; the precise plot altitude for our SL28 lot remains unconfirmed.

Small micromills have helped Costa Rican producers keep individual coffees separate and take greater control over processing. SL28 adds another part of the story: the variety was selected at Scott Agricultural Laboratories in Kenya during the 1930s, and is now also cultivated in other origins, including Costa Rica.

What red honey means

The cherry skin is removed, while some of the sticky fruit layer, called mucilage, remains around the seed during drying. No honey is added. “Red honey” describes a processing approach; drying times and the amount of mucilage retained vary between producers.

Brewing suggestions

Start with a paper-filter brew to explore the flavour detail: 15g coffee to 250g water is a useful starting ratio. Adjust grind and water temperature to your taste.

Roasted in small batches by Black Eye Coffee Roasters in Malta. Available in 100g, 250g and 1kg, as roasted whole beans or ground for your brewing method.

Flavour notes describe the supplier’s coffee profile; they are not added ingredients.
