Apricot, black tea and lemon, with a floral direction. This washed Sidamo Bensa coffee brings a stone-fruit focus to our Ethiopian selection, alongside the blueberry-and-orange direction of Aricha.

Origin & growing tradition

Bensa is the named origin area on our supplier’s listing, within the Sidamo coffee designation. Our shipment is washed Grade 2, crop 2025/26, exported by Daye Bensa Coffee Export PLC as confirmed by its certificate of origin. Ethiopia’s coffee culture is closely linked to smallholder farming, diverse local coffee varieties and the work of washing stations that receive and process farmers’ cherries.

Those local differences matter: the name Bensa alone does not identify a single estate or washing station. We are keeping this coffee’s story tied to its confirmed origin rather than borrowing the history of a different, similarly named lot.

Altitude: the exact growing range for our shipment has not yet been confirmed. The same applies to its named washing station and cultivar mixture.

Washed processing

The washed method removes the cherry’s fruit layers before the coffee is dried in parchment. Processing choices help shape how clearly the coffee’s fruit and floral character comes through, although the final cup also depends on variety, growing conditions, roasting and brewing.

Supplier profile: apricot, black tea, lemon and florals, with citrus acidity and a silky texture.

Brewing suggestions

Try V60, another paper-filter brewer or AeroPress. A starting filter ratio of 15g coffee to 250g water gives you room to adjust the brew towards a lighter or more concentrated cup.

Roasted in small batches by Black Eye Coffee Roasters in Malta. Available in 100g, 250g and 1kg, as roasted whole beans or ground for your brewing method.

Flavour notes describe the supplier’s coffee profile; they are not added ingredients.
