Black tea, blueberry and orange are the supplier’s flavour markers for this washed Aricha coffee. A silky texture and lively citrus character make it an interesting choice for drinkers exploring Ethiopian coffee.
Origin & coffee culture
Our coffee comes from Aricha, Yirgacheffe, and is supplied as washed Grade 2, crop 2025/26. Its certificate of origin confirms Daye Bensa Coffee Export PLC as the exporter. Yirgacheffe sits within Ethiopia’s rich coffee-growing tradition, where many smallholders cultivate coffee alongside food crops and family labour plays an important role in farm work.
Ethiopia’s diversity of coffee varieties and local growing traditions helps explain why coffees from neighbouring areas can taste so different. Aricha’s identity is worth keeping separate from our Sidamo Bensa selection, even though both are washed Ethiopian coffees.
Altitude & varieties: exact growing elevations and the variety mixture for our shipment are awaiting lot confirmation. We have not substituted details from another importer’s Aricha lot.
Washed processing
In a washed process, the cherry skin and fruit layers are removed before the coffee finishes drying in its parchment. Fermentation is commonly used to loosen the mucilage before washing. Exact fermentation and drying times depend on the station and lot.
Brewing suggestions
Paper filter or AeroPress is a good starting choice for exploring the tea and citrus profile. Begin with 15g coffee to 250g water for filter, then adjust the grind to balance sweetness and brightness.
Roasted in small batches by Black Eye Coffee Roasters in Malta. Available in 100g, 250g and 1kg, as roasted whole beans or ground for your brewing method.
Flavour notes describe the supplier’s coffee profile; they are not added ingredients.
